alexchase > Ann on our hotel's balcony in Cairo. You can see people below in the streets...crosswalks are non-existent. Think of the old video game "Frogger" to get an idea of how you cross the street in Cairo.
alexchase > This market was across the street from our hotel in Cairo. It's open most hours of the day and many of the merchants sleep by their stands. We bought all types of fruit, dates, Egyptian pizza, and sweets from various stands.

alexchase > This is the outside of the Egyptian museum. No photos were allowed inside but there was a ton of ancient Egypt artifacts in here. Most memorable were all the contents of King Tut's tomb and the mummies of various pharaohs.
alexchase > A bowl of kushary, a great Egyptian dish that can be found in many little restaurants around Cario. The dish consists of rice, lentil, pasta, and a tomato paste. When you go inside a kushary restaurant, you will find yourself surrounded by locals and there's only three things on the menu: small, medium or large.
alexchase > Ibn Tulun Mosque. Raised in 877 by the Abbasid governor, this mosque has a style reminding of the Samarra mosque in Iraq, quite different from other Egyptian mosques. Built on a six-acre site, the mosque was large enough to accommodate all of the city's males for Friday prayer. The mosque has an open interior, and the minaret, the oldest in Egypt, is accessible for a little baksheesh (tips)
